The Dragonfly - Work in Progress Wednesday

This is one of the awesomest things I've made lately.  Last week, a customer contacted me about my Art Nouveau Letter Wax Seal Stamps  in my Etsy shop and wanted to know if the design could be customized.

Here's where the awesome part comes in.  She is an entomologist whose favorite animal is the dragonfly, and she had been looking for a dragonfly seal for a while. Never finding one that she quite liked, she asked if I could make one for her.  Absolutely!

I asked her to give me an idea of the type of design she had in mind. She sent me this digital image of a dragonfly specimen.  Does it get any cooler than this?

Such a beautiful creature.

So I got right to work. And drew a dragonfly based on the picture.

This is me drawing.  (Have I ever told you how much i love to draw?)

It took a few drafts, as it usually does, to get it just right.

I think this was the second of maybe four drafts.

I etched the image into a thick sheet of brass.  Cut the brass, sanded the edges, and affixed it onto a hand painted wooden handle.

I had been meaning to make some jewelry with dragonflies.  Now that I've got the drawing, the hard part is done.

You can be sure that I'll be making some dragonfly pendants, earrings, and rings very soon.

Thank you, guys. Linda, I think there must be a resurgence in the lost art of letter writing lately.

Just stunning! You have an incredible gift. Maybe I'll beg Santa to bring me one of your stamps :) Then again, that would mean I'd have to write more old fashioned letters!!

I love the custom wax seal – I've really been wanting one of those, but I'm not sure what I'd actually use it for. (Maybe if I get a penpal??)

hi Alicia,
I must say, your jewelry designs are stunning !! The dragonfly will make beautiful jewelry. I see you don't have a "followers" section set up. No worries, I'll just add your URL to my blog list for blogs I follow.
Have a great weekend & a successful festival.
hugs,
