Winter games

Let's play a little game:

Waking up to a snow-covered winter wonderland this morning: Good!
Realizing that your county has declared it a snow-day (meaning preschool is canceled): Not good.

Snow covered rose bushes in my front yard

A bright shining sun, let's drive to the bookstore: Good.
Realizing that the roads in your very hilly neighborhood are covered in deceptively invisible yet exceedingly slippery ice: NOT good.

Threacherous, although it doesn't seem that way from the photograph

Driving halfway through your very hilly neighbhorhood (it's not called Indian Hills for nothing, folks), and seeing various abandoned cars scattered all about the middle of the roads: NOT good :(

Drivers abandon their cars in the middle of the roads on the glassy slopes of Indian Hills
Abandoned...abandoned...abandoned...

Deciding to turn the car around and drive back home: Good.
Realizing that no matter which direction you try to navigate from, every road that leads to home is an up-hill, and every single up hill is covered in a solid sheet of ice : NOT good.

Attempting to drive your Honda Accord up the least steep of hills: Sure, let's say good.
Losing control of your car as it slides backward down a glassy hill: NOT GOOD.

The hill my car slid backwards down

Using your super-duper-Canadian-snow-driving skills to inch the car to a safe location in a cul-de-sac: Good.
Abandoning your car and carrying your 2.5 year-old chatterbox home in your arms up a treacherous mountain in impractically high heeled boots: Good? Nope.

Neighbors gather round the bottom of the hill to watch cars attempting to navigate through ice
Joining neighbors to talk about this insane weather. Good.

The remains of a sign knocked over by a FedEx truck (at the bottom of an ice-covered hill)
Mailbox of the house at the bottom of one icy hill

Walking around the neighborhood to check out the damage.  Not good.

Solid ice. Solid.
Solid Ice: not good

Hot chocolate on a cold day. Definitely good.
Coming home to a warm house and a hot chocolate in my favorite mug. Good.

Stay safe out there, friends.

No amount of Canadian snow-driving skills or otherwise will work on ice! Glad to hear you're safe!

Didn't you and your little one get cold out there?!

You're right about that, Ginger. And yes, we got cold, but luckily I parked the car only a 5 minute walk from home. Brr!

Holy cow! Glad you are safe and sound!!

We got a bunch of nothin'- you would have thought the state was shutting down as of yesterday. No bread, no milk, no bottled water to be found anywhere. And then? Zippo.

Stay warm, lovely! Too bad Mason and I weren't there to play with you and Miss Majesty while you were iced in! xoxo

Jess: It really looks like nothing out here, too. Until you try walking on the invisible ice. It's black ice everywhere. So dangerous! This would have been the perfect day for a playdate if we were neighbors, ::sigh::.

I'm always for staying home if the weather is bad, everything can wait, safety 1st.

Because we live on a steep hill the sch. bus routes were at the bottom, I never drove the kids down, they just had an extra snow day :)

Hope you are warmer now, regards, T. :)
